Stay healthy this winter

By following some simple suggestions, we can help ourselves to stay healthy, safe and as comfortable as possible this winter.

Stay active. This generates heat and keeps us warm.

Even indoors, don’t sit still for more than an hour. If walking is difficult, try chair-based exercises, even moving your arms and legs will increase your circulation.

Keep your hands and face warm. If they get cold, they can increase blood pressure and trigger a heart attack.

Try to eat at least one hot meal each day and take several hot drinks. If you are worried about a poor appetite, speak to your GP.

Keep your spirits up. It’s not unusual to feel a bit down during the winter. If you can’t visit family or friends, make sure you phone them or look at Age UK’s befriending service (link opens in new window).
